Typhoid fever is a common illness and comes deadly when let untreated, these pointers left you know it's time to get treated fast.
Usually caused by Salmonella Typhi, the bacteria is deposited in water (most common) and food which is then carried by a person who can spread to other people!
A lot of times, people erroneously treat malaria not knowing they are incubating typhoid fever which have become common in recent times. (a single reason why self medication shouldn't be encouraged).
Typhoid fever is contacted via contaminated food/water (also common in contaminated fruits) containing a high concentration of the bacteria (Salmonella Typhi).Though most times, typhoid may show no immediate symptoms, incubating the fever can become deadly when expert treatment isn't sought in which case a stool culture is done to detect the fever.
Typhoid's incubation period takes anything from one to two weeks with the fever lasting around three to four weeks.
Symptoms to look out for include:
- Abdominal discomfort/pain/tenderness
- Diarrhea
- Constant Headache
- Poor Appetite
- Body aches and pains
- High Temperature/Fever (as high as 104 degrees)
Although Typhoid can be brought under control and treated with Antibiotics which kills the bacteria, it's best to get help fast as deadly cases of the bacteria eating up the intestines have been recorded.
